Motherhood and Ultimate

I feel like I'm settling into motherhood...if there is ever such a thing. I'm still tired and I still feel guilty sometimes (like right now, I am updating a blog instead of making some nutritious food for him), but the fog has long lifted, and I feel like I'm really enjoying my baby now. Some highlights of motherhood thus far include:

- First steps. And sometimes he'll let me hold onto just one of his hands to walk, and once, he looked up at me and smiled, and kept walking, as if to say "I like it when we walk together"

- He calls me "mama" whenever he sees me, especially first thing in the morning or when I get home from work.

- Pushing him in the stroller really fast and watching him lift his hands to catch the wind.

- He's starting to really like books, and wanting to flip them from cover to cover over and over.

- He discovered the fun of playing on our bed after bath time. He'll bury his face in a pile of the duvet blanket, and then sit up and fling himself backward, and giggle wildly. This goes on a for a while, until we learn the hard way that we should put his diaper on first.

- Before we put him to bed, and are just holding him in the dark, he likes to cup his hands over your face and grin. And then he'll try to stick his fingers in your every facial orifice...yes, including my eye.

We're starting to have a social life too, mostly having people over after baby's down for the night. Hubby and I have to take turns going out: he has floor hockey on monday nights, and I just joined ultimate on tuesdays. Me! On a SPORTS team! Playing in a game! Where they keep score! Crazy!!

Had my first game last night, and even though it was cold and rainy and windy (perfect ultimate weather) I still went! And played, which consists of running! Did you know people yell "hip-hip-horrrraaayy" three times after the game? I come home and tell hubby how dumb it is to cheer for ourselves after a loss, and he informs me that it's for the other team, for good sportsmanship! really? wierd. And the hand shaking afterwards, where you just say "good game" really really really fast 10 times. Seems so insincere when they've just kicked our butts.

These little athlete rituals amuse me :)

I stand corrected: one's eye is not an orifice.
