I promised myself that I'd buy in moderation when it came to maternity clothes. In your first trimester, you really don't need to buy any new clothes, your old clothes should fit just fine! Or at most get a $20 belly band for your tighter pants. So that leaves you with 6months of maternity clothes to purchase (or 9months if you want to include the post partum period). Now how many outfits does one need for 6months...hard to say, and so easy to justify, lol. I think that if you are working, you need more outfits than if you were at home. Is it enough just to have 5 outfits which would be good for a weekly rotation for 6 months? Most of us would probably want to have more variety than that. But once in a while, you could wear an old looser / stretchier fitting top (old pants are out of the question at this point).
So far, I feel like I've bought more than I originally would have thought. I mean really, why spend a lot on clothes you'll only wear for a few months? But here are some justifications:
a. I buy styles that are versatile enough to wear afterwards!
b. I could have a second baby and wear these again!
But let it be known that maternity clothes are the world's MOST COMFORTABLE CLOTHES EVER! Especially the pants. I don't know why you would ever go back to normal pants later. They are stretchy, expandable, and supportive, and did I mention pretty stylish too?? I don't know why overweight people don't shop in maternity stores. At the chain stores, the pants are $30-60 a pair...very resonable!
My damage so far: 4 sweaters, 3 nice tops, 2 t-shirts, 1 sweat pants, 1 zip up "workout" (or more like lounge around the house) top, 5 pants (2 of which I'm already outgrowing b/c they fit low).
I can't promise these will keep me satisfied until March...what a slippery slope. I hope winter jackets will still fit, that would really suck if they didn't.
At least I won't buy baby shoes...or maybe just 1 pair, hehe.

I totally agree! mat. clothes are SO comfortable. plus the pant hemlines are shorter since no one who is pregnant should be wearing crazy heels which saves hemming time AND toes from getting blistered by ridiculous shoes. there are some perks to pregnancy afterall. :)
hehe. Prego clothes are also very nicely made, unlike some of the regular clothes out there. Definitely worth the monies. I giggle to myself when you said how much clothes you bought. haha.
oooh.. i didn't know (abt the prego). congrats Chows!
