I've been at my second professional job now for 2 weeks. It's not as exciting as the island, but much less stressful. There are no acute emergencies, no deliveries to run to, and NO CALL! It's all clinic patients. I've gotten some neat referrals to keep things interesting however. I've already had my share of the "naturopath parent," (kid is on a topical chelator because his aluminum is high, whatever) the "paranoid parent" (thinks kid has a brain aneurysm or ate melamine contaminated products).
What I love most of all is how multicultural my patient population is. Two-thirds are non-white (Aboriginal, African, Middle Easter, South Asia) compared with the <1% that are non-white in the Maritimes. I don't think I've met a single McDonald yet! It's cool.
My 5min walk to work has become a 45min drive 1-way in good traffic, but if I'm lucky, and take a faster way, I can cut it down to 35min! Woohoo! The clinic is inside a mall, so parking is plenty and free, and lunch is a variety of food court items or Safeway's ready-to-eat lunches.
For the last 2 weekends, I've been doing baby product shopping/research. This industry is only dwarfed by the wedding industry. It's cheaper, but more confusing as there are more choices. But if you can shell out thousands on ONE DAY, then surely a few hundred for a few months/years seems like a deal.
BTW, we're having a "mild winter" here; which means the snow that has fallen hasn't remained, and that during the day, at some point, we're above freezing. Score!
