Heard the weather report on the radio: - 35 C today, but by next week, it should warm up to a high of - 1 C. Only in Alberta can you have a 30 degree temperature change within a week and STILL BE BELOW FREEZING!!
Why oh why do I live here? Seriously. I found myself saying that in my head a lot this week as my work commute took a minimum of 2 hours, to a parking lot without a plug-ins, and hearing my engine protest upon starting it again at the end of the day. So this is an opportunity to think positively...hmm...
I live here because once upon a time, this city gave my dad his first good job offer after graduation, and it is a job that fed and clothed me and put a roof over my head, and occasionally took me on vacation, and paid for my education. I moved away, but the city easily beckoned me back with its comfort and familiarity and most of all, family. Oh, and my husband and I have pretty darn good jobs here too.
Although summer seems like a lifetime away, let this week serve to remind me to appreciate every warm air molecule when it does comes. Every time I can drive more than 20km/hr to work (no accidents, just people driving very slowly), I will be thankful.
An unexpected bonus of this cold weather is that it forced me to actually take a nap when my child is napping instead of going shopping. I love naps, and sleep comes easy now. Cold weather forces me to sleep more! Who would have thought!
