Life as Staff

So it's been officially a month...and no one has died...although some have tried.

It helps to have a really nice support staff and good collegues. There's the usual constipation and ADHD, but there's also the goiter, precocious puberty, insulin adjustments, seizures, heart murmur, and child protection issues. It's nice to be able to do what I was actually trained to do...that is, not-primary care: interesting consultations, neonatal resucitation, etc. There's been a couple of "oh crap, what do I do now!" kind of situations...but some how, I got through.

I call Halifax a lot, and I know it's only because I know the people. There is no way I would call subspecialists this much in a new place.

And I finally got paid. My first doctor paycheck! Woohoo! I guess this means I can order more fake chinese food for delivery. The other day, I tried the first chinese restaurant in Ch'town, random pick from the phone book. I asked it was cooked "chinese style" ... the cantonese lady on the other end says "close la...we don't have many ingredients here...haha" and it was edible, but the leftovers today were truly disgusting. Blah!

Life outside of work is a little lonely and I am looking forward to finishing here in a month and seeing familiar faces again.
